So, what was junior Cole Miller’s reaction when he learned he was the lucky student selected to be President for a Day?
“OMG, OMG, OMG” followed by a resounding “YES!”
That gleeful outburst took place in the middle of a lecture in Cole’s Literature class, prompting the professor, Dr. Barry Devine, to inquire, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I’m going to be President for a Day,” Cole announced.
Indeed, he is! Next Monday, Cole and President Rob Huntington will swap schedules for the day. Cole was selected for the challenge and honor by making a gift of $18.50 to The Heidelberg Fund, along with other students who also made a gift and were entered into a drawing.
It will be quite a day for Rob, too. As a music education major, Cole’s schedule is jam-packed with classes, rehearsals, lessons and meetings. There’s barely time for dinner!
Cole will start his day by parking in the President’s reserved space in the University Hall lot. He will spend the day making decisions, taking phone calls, handling situations and attending meetings – all in a day’s work for a busy university president.
“I’m excited just to be exposed to not being a student for eight hours and being in a position of leadership. I don’t really know what to expect, but I want to do everything,” Cole said. He should know, though, that eight hours would be considered a light day!
There will be lots of surprises along the way, but both are ready – Cole with his suit and tie and Rob with his jeans, ’Berg hoodie and backpack.
Cue the paparazzi, the “presidential” escort and Hail to the Chief.
