The Collegiate Purple Star recognizes those public and independent colleges and universities in Ohio that are supportive and inclusive of military-connected students.
Heidelberg participates in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program for veterans, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. As Yellow Ribbon Program participants, U.S. degree-granting institutions voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Veterans Administration to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution.
Heidelberg provides financial assistance up to $6,200 for tuition, books, fees and meal plans for active-duty military, National Guard and Reservist members, veterans and their spouses who are looking to enroll in or complete a teacher prep program. Funding for the Empower VetEd: Supporting Military Educator Prep Program grant through the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce.
A total of 12 annual scholarships will be awarded over three years. Those who receive grant funding must be entering or continuing in a Pre-K—12 education program such as the School of Education at Heidelberg. Education majors at Heidelberg can choose to pursue licensure options in Primary Education (Pre-K—5), Middle Childhood (Grades 4-9), Adolescent to Young Adult (Grades 7-12), Intervention Specialist, and Multi-Age Music (Pre-K—12).
