Nathan Cutietta
Director of the Media Communication Center
Fourth year of teaching
I was working in Los Angeles as a television producer. I’ve worked for Fox Sports, I’ve worked for Disney and even Warner Brothers for a long time. I first started in Warner Brothers actually and worked up from editor to producer and then worked around Los Angeles for a while. Then I met my wife, and when she got her doctorate she applied for jobs and the job she got was actually here in Tiffin, Ohio. So that’s when we moved out to Ohio and I got a job at NBC in Cleveland. I was producing their 11 p.m. newscast and I did that for a little over a year, and then this job at the MCC opened. My wife and I thought it would be a great transition and I remember thinking, “Oh, okay, I can handle this. I’ve done big producing.” But teaching is much, much harder than I thought it would be. It took like a year of disaster teaching before I got up to speed and found my style. Heidelberg is a unique place. I decided to stay because it is really like a small community. You can do whatever you want here. There is so much freedom and support between faculty members. It’s a great environment here; that’s why I want to continue teaching at Heidelberg.
Nathan’s professional television career started at 15 in Tucson, Arizona as an editor at Jorgensen Productions, and later at Tucson’s Warner Brother's Affiliate as a producer. He moved to Los Angeles in 2001 and worked as a Director and Producer for Fox, Fox Sports, Disney and PBS. He is best known for his television series Lost Legends of the West, a 13-episode folk history of the American West that was nominated for two Emmy Awards. Nathan holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California and lives with his wife Margarita in the small beach community of Huron, Ohio. He teaches multiple classes to students studying media as well as directs the Media Communication Center.
