Heidelberg University and Uwill, the leading mental health and wellness solution for colleges and students, are partnering to expand counseling capabilities available to support students off-campus and abroad.
Participating with Uwill allows Heidelberg to provide its students with immediate mental health support if a student is located outside of Ohio. Whether on a break from school, on holidays or even during a study-abroad experience, all Heidelberg students will have access to immediate support in all 50 states and 40 countries.
“The beauty of this partnership is that Uwill’s proprietary technology facilitates immediate appointments with licensed mental health professionals based on student needs and preferences,” said John Sharp, assistant director of counseling at Heidelberg.
“Providing our students with mental health support to assist them in their academic journey is one of our priorities,” John said. “Uwill gives us needed resources and provides our students the unique chance to meet with a counselor at all times, whether at school or not.”
Heidelberg's mental health team has worked throughout the summer to implement the Uwill platform. Watch for communication about its benefits and how to sign up. In addition to the current mental health services Heidelberg provides, students will now have access to counseling services through Stoner Health and Counseling as well as the Uwill platform, John said.
Recent survey data shows that 90% of adults believe the country is facing a mental health crisis. While 42% of college students have expressed the need for help with mental health issues in the last year, more than 60% have never received counseling or therapy. Further, 68% of faculty study-abroad directors said they had to manage student mental health problems while abroad, while one-quarter of those felt unprepared to do so.
