Heidelberg Athletic Director Greg Cooper has announced the promotion of Erin Eaton to head coach of the Women's Basketball team. Erin, who had been the interim head coach for the program following the resignation of Rachel Mease, served as the top assistant for The Berg during the 2023-24 season.
Erin becomes the program's seventh head coach since the Ohio Athletic Conference began sponsoring the sport in 1984.
"We began this search process with the goal of finding the best candidate regardless of their experiences. It became abundantly clear that the best person for the job was already on staff," said Greg. "Erin's extensive Division III head and assistant coaching resumé and her deep Midwest ties are what separated her from all other candidates. That background, coupled with her charismatic personality, high expectations, and competitive drive are what we need to elevate this program."
Prior to her arrival at Heidelberg, Erin had stints as the head coach at Muskingum University and Pitt-Greensburg. Her work as an assistant coach included time at Catholic University, Baldwin Wallace University, University of Pittburgh-Johnstown, and Bethany College.
"I want to thank President Huntington, Director of Athletics Greg Cooper, and the entire search committee for this tremendous opportunity. I feel an immense sense of gratitude for both their belief in me and the journey that lies ahead," said Erin, who received her bachelor's degree from Elmira College and her master's degree from West Virginia University. "I look forward to working alongside our student-athletes to build a program that can compete in one of the most well-respected conferences in all of Division III."
The 2023-24 team was led by a breakout season by junior Morgan Altenburger, who finished with a team-high 10.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
The 2024-25 season is slated to tip off at Alma College on Nov. 16, 2024.
