In its second year, Heidelberg’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day ON! has garnered some regional and local media attention. This year, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee expanded Day ON! programming to a full week of primarily virtual events to make it more accessible to more members of the campus community.
On Monday, reporter Jon Monk of WTOL TV in Toledo interviewed Shaun Gunnell, coordinator of Multicultural Student Affairs, about the events for the week and the value of continuing to pursue Dr. King’s message of peace and justice for all.
The week’s events kicked off with a virtual keynote presentation by ‘Berg alum Pete Green, ’78, who developed this year’s theme, “History through the Lens of Race.” Pete’s keynote was featured on the front page of Tiffin’s Advertiser-Tribune.
The Tiffin-Seneca Community Dr. Martin Luther King Day Celebration also went virtual this year and received coverage from WTOL. The celebration featured as its keynote Dr. Trevor bates, the new president of Wilmington College and former athletic training professor and director at Heidelberg. Heidelberg was represented on the planning committee for the community celebration.
