At the 2020 MAC Banquet and CSI Induction, two sets of awards are given out: the Emerging Scholar Award for an incoming student and the Student of the Year award, for the graduating students in each program.
The Emerging Scholar Award
An annual award designed to encourage and support promising new counseling students who are emerging as leaders and scholars in the counseling field. The scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates character strengths such as persistence and motivation, resourcefulness, professional ethics and behavior, openness to feedback, and acceptance of other cultures and points of view. This award is rooted in a strong legacy of high expectations, professionalism, and excellence. Applicants have to meet the requirements of the CSI honor society, apply, write an essay, have at least 1 faculty sponsor, and are judged by a panel of faculty, alumni, and student leaders.
This year we are in a unique situation because we are able to recognize and celebrate not one but two students, an awardee and a runner-up, who meet the expectations and requirements of the award, thanks to a generous scholarship fund provided by our local suicide prevention coalition from the money that was donated for Max's Miles.
This year’s Emerging Scholar Award was presented to Chantel Ely. The runner-up is Kaitlin Chrisman.
Student of the Year Award
Each year the MAC faculty and staff convene to decide which student has best exemplified the program and the profession. Students are judged on professionalism, merit, scholarship, service, communication, ethics, and authenticity. A student is chosen from the School Counseling Track and from the Clinical Mental Health Track. This year was an exceptionally difficult year as we have an incredibly strong group of students.
This year’s 2020 School Counseling Student of the Year is Joya Haithcock. The 2020 Clinical Mental Health Student of the Year is Quinn Sparks
