On Monday morning, when weekly national and regional rankings were released for their respective sports, Heidelberg University found themselves on two separate lists.
Cracking the national rankings from the American Volleyball Coaches Association was the Berg volleyball program who came in at No. 25 on the list. The Student Princes had been sniffing around the rankings all season long having received votes in each weekly release, and were finally selected this week after starting the season 9-2.
Among those nine victories, Heidelberg has knocked off No. 10 ranked Aurora University and No. 14 Wittenberg University. The only two blemishes on one of the best starts in program history come at the hands of No. 4 Berry University and No. 15 Wisconsin-Whitewater -- both of which came in five sets.
Volleyball will travel to the Hampton Inn River Hawk Classic in Selinsgrove, Pa. this weekend for three matches, where they will face the No. 23 ranked Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon.
Also making a splash in their respective rankings was the Heidelberg men's cross country team who made a long awaited return to the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Rankings on Monday morning. The Student Princes come in at No. 10 in the region, joining a grouping of four other OAC schools in the top-10.
This season, the Berg has been lead by reigning OAC runner of the week, Austin Neura who has been the team's top finisher in all three races so far. Neura recently took home the individual title of the Tiffelberg Open. He has been closely followed by sophomore David Drushal who has displayed the 16th all-time best 8K in program history this season.
Cross country will take the weekend off before returning to the course at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville University on September 28.
