AUSTINTOWN -- After an outstanding 2018-19 season, the Heidelberg University wrestling team welcomed the postseason conference recognition for two wrestlers.
Junior, Dylan Roth was named the John Summa Wrestler of the Year en route to an All-Conference first team honor, while senior Tyler Hammack joined him as a first team All-OAC selection.
Roth is Heidelberg's first Wrestler of the Year winner since All-American Justin Kihn took home the award in 2016. He is the fourth Berg wrestler to be tabbed with the conference's highest honor, while current head coach Tony Patrizi and 2006 National Champion Joe Pflug were also presented with the award.
Hammack repeats as a first-team honoree after also taking home the award in 2017.
At 184, Roth, went 6-0 in conference and completed his regular season with a flawless record at 34-0. In the OAC, Roth faced some his toughest tests of the season as he squared off against nationally ranked opponents across the conference. Roth dispatched those opponents with ease. He picked up three OAC pins and won by a combined margin of 31-12 in the other bouts.
As well for his efforts this season, Roth was tabbed as the OAC wrestler of the week on December 3 after pinning Cash Thompson in the OAC opener vs. Ohio Northern and winning the ONU Invite and being named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.
Outside of conference competition, the junior, who returned this season after missing all of 2017-18 due to injury, won the prestigious Pete Willson Invitational at the 184 weight class.
Roth is heading to the NCAA postseason ranked as the No. 5 wrestler in 184.
At 197, Hammack continued to impress this season after qualifying for Nationals last year. The senior finished his OAC campaign undefeated at 5-0. He finished the regular season with 23-4 overall record.
Against OAC opponents, Hammack picked up three tech falls en route to completing a combined margin of victory of 65-8.
Much like Roth, Hammack's highlight outside of conference came at the illustrious Pete Willson Invitational. He finished fourth among the esteemed competition.
Hammack will head to the postseason as the No. 10 ranked wrestler at 197.
Both men will hope to add to their postseason awards at the NCAA Regionals this weekend on February 22-23, hosted at Wabash College. The two-day event will determine qualifications to the National Championships, held on March 8-9 in Roanoke, Virginia.
