As part of the Heidelberg University Homecoming Weekend, four of the school's top former student-athletes will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2019 class -- 34th overall -- will be comprised of Tom Wynn ('91), Frank Balogh ('02), Lucas Messer ('05), and Tina Siegel Myslenski ('07).
Wynn was a three-time national qualifier for the Heidelberg wrestling program, and was just the third Student Prince to accomplish the feat. A model of consistency, Wynn won 20+ matches in each of his four seasons representing the Tricolor. At the conclusion of his illustrious career, he was second on the program's all-time wins list with 91 victories.
With a career batting average of .414, Balogh was a standout infielder who helped initiate the transformation of Heidelberg's baseball program. In each of his three seasons on the field, Balogh earned First Team All-OAC honors and was twice an All-Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association. In addition to being the career leader in batting average, Balogh graduated as the leader in total bases and stolen bases.
A two-time First Team All-Region selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Messer remains one of the most decorated players in the history of the men's basketball program. Messer is the career scoring leader with 1,760 points and 17.1 points per game for the Student Princes. Of those, 458 points came from the foul line -- also a school record.
Much like Balogh and the baseball team, Myslenski played a critical role in the resurgence of the Heidelberg volleyball team. A monster at the net, she holds the school records for kills (1,779) and blocks (548). She earned All-OAC accolades three times and Academic All-OAC honors once. In 2004, she became the first player in program history to receive All-Region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Since 1985, nearly 170 individuals and 13 teams have been inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame.
All four inductees will be honored at the Hall of Fame Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 19. The reception begins at noon in Campus Center. The lunch and ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Wickham Great Hall. Inductees will also be honored at halftime of the Homecoming football game against Otterbein at 7 p.m. Click here to register for the banquet.
