The campuses of Heidelberg and Tiffin University are a virtual melting pot, hosting a combined 250 international students this academic year. Thursday night, the students – along with administrators and staff from both universities and community representatives – gathered in downtown Tiffin for the “Tiffin Welcomes the World” event.
Presidents Rob Huntington and Lillian Schumacher were among those on hand to meet the international students.
As part of the event, the Seneca County Commissioners designated Sept. 5 “Seneca County Welcomes the World” Day. Commissioner Shane Thomas read a proclamation that stated, in part, that the commissioners “recognize the importance of creating an inclusive and welcoming community for people of all races and nationalities.”
This year, undergrad and grad students, faculty and staff and guests represent 18 countries at Heidelberg, according to the Office of International Affairs and Studies. At TU, 35 countries are represented.
“I really enjoyed my conversations with new students at HU and TU,” President Huntington said. “It was awesome to reconnect with some of our former International students who returned for a visit!”
The annual event was sponsored by both universities and the International Cultural Center.
