New students will get to hear an inspiring message from distinguished young alum and attorney Rebecca (Denton) Shope, ’04, when she delivers the keynote address during Opening Convocation on Thursday, Aug. 23. Convocation will be the official kick-off to the 2018-19 academic year.
Rebecca, the recipient of the 2017 Young Alumni Award, is a partner at the Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick law firm in Toledo, practicing in the labor and employment and litigation groups. She also assists employers in navigating complex employment laws and regulations and represents clients in divorce and child custody matters.
A rising star in the legal field, Rebecca has served on a number of professional boards. In her community, she was honored with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2017 Toledo Woman of the Year Award and the “20 Under 40” up-and-coming professionals to watch. She is past president of the Fellows Organization.
The campus community also will hear from President Rob Huntington and Provost Beth Schwartz. All new students will receive their “H” pin and the ceremony will close with the singing of the Alma Mater, Sweet Alma Home.
