Heidelberg University invites the community to participate in the reading of names of genocide victims as part of the #TogetherWeRemember initiative Sunday night and Monday.
#TogetherWeRemember is a global day of remembrance and activism in honor of victims of genocide through coordinated name readings in communities around the world and on social media. Names will be read from the Archive of Names, the first of its kind to centralize names of victims and rescuers from different genocides.
At Heidelberg, the reading begins at 6 p.m. Sunday and continues until midnight at The University Commons. On Monday, names will again be read continuously from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at The Commons.
The event is being coordinated by Heidelberg’s Lichtman-Behm Genocide Lecture Series committee as an outreach of the annual event each fall that brings light to issues of genocide, including the Holocaust, Rwanda and Cambodia. Co-sponsors include Heidelberg’s LBGLS Committee, the World Student Union and STAND chapter.
