Monica C. Lozano, influential CEO, a leader in the news media, educator and philanthropist will be the keynote speaker for Heidelberg University’s Spring Patricia Adams Lecture Series event next month.
Heidelberg invites the community to attend dinner and Lozano’s keynote address, My American Story: A Family, A Business, A Dream, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in Seiberling Gymnasium.
In December, Lozano became president and CEO of the College Futures Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to college access and success for low-income and underrepresented students. She is also the co-founder and chair of the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program.
Lozano has an impressive record in Hispanic media that began in 1985 when she joined La Opinión, the country’s leading Spanish-language daily newspaper and became its publisher and CEO in 2004. In 2010, she was named chairman and CEO of the parent company and led the successful transition of the business into a highly regarded multi-media content provider of news and information important to the Latino community. She stepped down from this role in January 2016.
Additionally, she serves on a number of boards, including the Weingart Foundation, which she chairs. She also has served as a trustee of the University of Southern California and the California State Board of Education. An appointee of President Obama to the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, Lozano also served on the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. In 2017, she was named the Los Angeles Business Person of the Year and was listed in Fortune as one of the 50 Most Influential Latinas in the country. In 2016, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
During her time on campus, Lozano will meet in various settings with students and the campus community. She also will participate in the School of Business, Computer Science and Information Technology’s annual Women Entrepreneur Awards program.
Cost to attend the dinner and Lozano’s keynote address ranges from $25-$35, depending on meal option. A reception and cash bar will be held prior to the dinner, beginning at 5:45 p.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium.
