Dear Members of the Heidelberg Community,
It is with a great sense of sorrow that I make this announcement. Over the weekend, Heidelberg graduate student Thomas “Tommy” Wogan passed away. Tommy graduated last May with his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and was pursuing his MBA here at Heidelberg. He had been a student athlete and was a member of Nu Sigma Alpha.
During times of grief, it’s important to remember to seek the comfort of others. On Tuesday night, January 30, at 7 p.m., there will be an open support forum in Herbster Chapel, facilitated by John Sharp, Assistant Director of Counseling and Disability Services, and Paul Stark, Campus Chaplain. We encourage you to come to share stories and memories about Tommy, to share your grief and to support one another.
Additionally, counselors at the Stoner Health, Counseling and Disabilities Center are available to provide any assistance you may need. Please reach out by calling the counseling center x2041 or x2892 if you would like to speak with someone. For pastoral care, Chaplain Stark can be reached at x2066.
If you are unable to reach either Stoner or Chaplain Stark, we encourage you to connect to another resource at Heidelberg. Other resources such as the Suicide Prevention Hotline (800-826-1306) or NAMI, the National Alliance of Mental Illness, (419-334-8021) are available any time.
The entire Heidelberg community joins together in expressing our sympathy to Tommy’s family and friends. We have been in communication with Tommy’s parents and we will announce details related to the memorial service in his hometown as well as a service that will take place at Heidelberg at a later date.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chris Abrams
Dean of Student Affairs
