GENERAL PURPOSE:
Person in this position is responsible for the leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student athletes on the Track and Field Team of Heidelberg University.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Athletic Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Provides day-to-day supervision over assistant coaches and graduate assistants within the applicable sport.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs and coordinates the activities of staff to include the planning, organizing and coaching of the team members.
Ensures compliance with policies and regulations of the NCAA, Ohio Athletic Conference and Heidelberg University.
Directs staff in the preparation of analyses of opponent teams; analyze statistics and tactical data of opponents and prepare accordingly.
Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters; consults with University administration and faculty for resolution of issues as required.
Works closely with students and other staff to develop strong culture and expectations within program focusing on retention of team members.
Serves as the recruiting coordinator for both the Cross Country and Track and Field Programs.
Works closely with the Admissions Counselors to ensure collaboration in the recruitment of student athletes. Assign geographical areas to and supervise staff in the recruitment of student athletes.
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds.
Study, evaluate and implement innovations in strategy and equipment.
Represent Heidelberg University Athletics in professional, civic, charity and alumni events.
Ensures gender equity, diversity, and inclusion in all athletic programs.
Develop and conduct camps to provide a community service to area youth where possible.
Develop an appropriate weight training and fitness program for both in-season and off-season performance.
Represents the University in the community and serves as spokesperson for the Athletic Department.
Other duties as required or assigned in support of the University’s mission and core values.
Education and Experience:
(A) Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; and,
(B) Three (3) to five (5) years head coaching experience; or,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience.
(A) Master’s degree in a relevant field;
(B) Five (5) or more years progressively responsible intercollegiate coaching experience ; and,
(C) Knowledge and experience with NCAA Division III.

- Ability to create and maintain working relationships with other faculty, staff and students.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment when answering questions and direct to appropriate department if necessary.
- Ability to understand and follow through with multi-directional tasks; Ability to maintain more than one project at a time and be comfortable meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of word processing and data management software and ability to learn new software and programs as necessary.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment including, but not limited to: personal computer, including spreadsheet and word processing software, adding machine, fax machine, copier, telephone, two-way radio communication devices scanner, and printers.
