Music Performance
I chose Heidelberg because I originally wanted to major in music education and be a music teacher.
I majored in Music Performance because I found out through my time here that teaching music in the public schools was not what I wanted to do.
A major challenge I encountered while at Heidelberg was my change in major and I handled it by talking with a lot of the School of Music & Theatre faculty who have walked a similar path with their own education.
Above all, Heidelberg prepared me to be flexible and adaptable, always.
Outside of the classroom, I was involved as a traditional member of the Euglossian Society, a corollary member of Alpha Phi Tau, a member of the HU Gaming Club game club, and as a member of the Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Marching Band.
My favorite extra-curricular activity was Jazz Ensemble because I really enjoy smaller ensembles as well as getting to play in a section alongside Dr. Daryl Close.
One faculty or staff mentor or advisor who impacted my ‘Berg experience is Dr. Elizabeth Tracy because she has been an incredible mentor to me all 4 years here at Heidelberg.
My advice to new freshman me would be to spend more time in the practice room.
My favorite Heidelberg memory is the Stars, Stripes, and Sousa concert on April 29.
My plans after graduation are to pursue my master’s bass trombone performance at Bowling Green State University.
