Business Administration, Sports Management and Economics Major
Why Heidelberg?
I chose Heidelberg because this was the only school that would allow me to do everything I wanted to do. I could play my sport, study what I wanted, have a social life and be involved on campus all at the same time without having to sacrifice anything.
The People
My favorite part of the campus/community is knowing someone no matter what building you go into or what office space you go into. You always have a friend on this campus.
Favorite Professor
My favorite professor is a tie between Courtney DeMayo, who I had my freshman year for World Civilizations. who always made class fun and improved my writing skills enormously, and Julie O'Reilly, whose Public Relations class was the highlight of my Tuesdays and Thursdays last semester. My favorite story about Julie is when she really needed one of our classes to open an email and actually read it, so as the subject of the email she put "Chipotle." She then proceeded to tell us that there is no Chipotle involved with this email and that she just needed us to read the email. Everyone who had Julie that semester died laughing at what she did, although it did not surprise any of us. It worked!
What is Berg Enactus?
Berg Enactus is an on-campus group that takes entrepreneurial action for others to create a better world. I chose to be involved because it is a great opportunity to test how much you have actually learned in the classroom by applying your knowledge to the real world. The best part about being involved with Berg Enactus is the experience you get, not only from the conference and competition, but also from the interactions with the different partners that we have each year.
Post-Graduation Plans
After graduation I will be completing my MBA as a part of the PlusOneAdvantage Free MBA program. I would love to work for a sports company/team doing marketing and PR. We'll see where life takes me.
Advice for New Students
I have two pieces of advice to offer to new students:
1. Get involved! If you're not sure about something, try it! The worst that happens is you figure out you don't like it, but at least you'll know! You do not want to get to your senior year having regrets, saying, "I wish I had joined that group" or, "I wish I had studied abroad." Four years isn't as long as you think, so make the most of it. You should never just be sitting in your room because you're bored!
2. Call your parents. Choosing a college is not easy, they just want to know you are OK and have made the right decision.
