Alex Chiarappa
Assistant Director of Admission
Alex received her degree in Business Administration from Heidelberg in 2013. Her husband, Joe, was a member of the Berg baseball team and received his degree in 2014. After completing her undergraduate degree, she went to work at Tiffin University as the Transfer Admissions Counselor while also pursuing her graduate degree for two years.
After my husband and I graduated we moved back to a suburb south of Akron. When we moved back there I started working at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, I was the Director of Annual Funding there. His family has a commercial heating and cooling company in the area, he started working there to take that over. Then the Assistant Director of Admission position came up here and we both love Tiffin and Heidelberg so we just decided to head back this way.
Since I started here, I’ve been living here and Joe has been living in Akron. We’re looking to live a little bit in between now, we’ve been trying to find a good house since September. It’s getting a little nerve wracking, what worries me is that we’re going to sell our house before we find a house. It’s a good problem to have, but it’s still a problem. I mean for my husband to let me do all of this, not let me but be okay with me doing all of this, it’s caused a lot of stress for us.
Our families were really worried, they thought that to be separated like this our first year of marriage was not a good idea. Joe and I are pretty driven people, career wise and personal, which is the best thing in our relationship that we are so supportive of each other. So, yeah, we’ve made it work, but it's been hard to be apart that first year of marriage. Basically, I’m over trying to find houses closer to the middle of Akron and Tiffin because I’m just ready to be back with him and the dogs.
Our wedding anniversary is May 7, I would like to be in a house by our first wedding anniversary. He’s really, really supportive of my career and he knew this was an amazing opportunity for me to come back here and start a career at Heidelberg. He was like, no, it’s not even a question you have to take this, you have to go for it. So, he has stayed and done things like try to sell our house and taking care of the dogs while I’ve just kind of been here doing this. This is the most selfless thing he could’ve done for me. We moved all the way back to his hometown, got all settled and he was willing to give all that up for me. I mean, I have so much respect for him, he’s just the greatest.
Alex is born and raised in Tiffin, attending Tiffin Columbian High School, Heidelberg, and Tiffin University. She is currently the Assistant Director of Admission here at Heidelberg, recruiting prospective students from Northeast Ohio to assist them throughout their college search.
