I chose Heidelberg because it instantly felt like a home away from home.
I majored in Political Science and English because these subjects allow me to learn about other cultures and prompt me to work to answer some of life's most difficult and fundamental questions.
A major challenge I encountered while at Heidelberg was imposter syndrome! I handled it by surrounding myself with a supportive group of faculty mentors and friends who empathized with these feelings and reminded me that it's OK to make mistakes.
Above all, Heidelberg prepared me to work hard to accomplish my goals, reach out for help when I need it, and to feel more confident in my abilities.
Outside of the classroom, I was involved in Zeta Theta Psi, Rho Eta Delta, Study Abroad, Model United Nations, the Student Research Conference Planning Committee, various academic honoraries, and working part-time at Sisters in Shelter, a nonprofit organization in downtown Tiffin that works with survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence.
My favorite extra-curricular activity was Zeta Theta Psi because it's where I met my lifelong best friends who constantly inspire me to be a better version of myself.
One faculty or staff mentor or advisor who impacted my ‘Berg experience is Dr. Marc O'Reilly because he goes above and beyond to support his students, answer a million questions and will always be someone I can go to for advice.
My advice to new freshmen would be to put yourself out there! You're much more capable than you realize!
My favorite Heidelberg memory is coming back the semester after the COVID campus closure and seeing all of my favorite people!
My plans after graduation are to continue my work with Sisters in Shelter to spread awareness of gender-based crimes that occur right in our own backyards. I also plan to attend graduate school in the near future to continue learning how to advocate for others.
