I chose Heidelberg because I wanted to continue my football career and I found that this campus and community had a personable atmosphere that very few other places possessed.
I majored in Business Administration, Economics and Political Science here at Heidelberg. I came into college as a Business Administration major working toward a future in management or finance and would later in my career add economics. My journey as a political science student came about after my freshman year when I was greatly influenced by Dr. Marc O’Reilly and his Honors Program seminar on global empires.
A major challenge I encountered while at Heidelberg was adjusting to campus after transferring in following the fall semester of my freshman year. I handled it by fully immersing myself in our campus, taking risks in the classroom and broadening my interests as a person.
Above all, Heidelberg prepared me to effectively manage possible failures and major obstacles that I will encounter throughout the rest of my life.
Outside of the classroom, I was involved in our university’s football program, the Honors Program, College Democrats, Writers in Residence and a number of other institutional organizations.
My favorite extra-curricular activity was football because the culture and closeness of our program is something that is not easily replicated.
Two faculty or staff mentors or advisors who impacted my ‘Berg experience are Dr. Joshua Bowman and Dr. Marc O’Reilly. Both have had incredible impacts on my academic and professional development. They each opened my eyes to political science and government, played integral roles in my motivation to pursue law school and have both become close friends and mentors.
It’s almost impossible to select one favorite Heidelberg moment from the past four years. The thing I will miss most is undoubtedly my time in the locker room and off the fields with my teammates.
My plans after graduation are to continue my financial advising practice with Northwestern Mutual, which I have managed for close to one year now, and to enter law school this coming fall.
