Montague Artist: Sookkyung Cho

Noted for her “sensitive and imaginative” (New York Concert Review) playing, Korean-born pianist Sookkyung Cho has been captivating worldwide audiences with her personal, thoughtful expressionist style. She has appeared in venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Chicago Cultural Center, Sarasota Opera House, Baltimore Museum of Art, Beaux concerts de la releve in Quebec, Château de Fontainebleau in France, and Zijingang Theater at Zhejiang University in China, among others, and was recently heard on Chicago’s WFMT.

On Friday, November 2, spend a day at Heidelberg University exploring music and theatre at the collegiate level. Whether you are thinking about majoring or minoring in music or theatre, or just continuing to play, sing and act, we will offer a unique look at the college experience.

New Music Live!: Ekmeles

Heidelberg University’s School of Music & Theatre will host the dynamic Ekmeles vocal ensemble as part of the school’s New Music Live Concert Series at 7 p.m. Friday (March 23) in Ohl Concert Hall.

Ekmeles is a six-person acapella vocal ensemble that performs new and rarely heard works and gems of historical avant garde. The group bridges musical past and present as they explore the creative and expressive potential of the human voice.

Guest Recital: Jeff Manchur

Piano teacher and performer Jeff Manchur’s love and respect of traditional music led him into the world of new music, searching for fresh ways of expression beyond the conventional boundaries of current customs of classical music. Audiences will have a chance to experience Manchur’s diverse and challenging style when he performs a guest recital, Choose Joy: Music from a Cancer Journey, at Heidelberg University at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 17, in Brenneman Music Hall.
