SMART Mentoring

Smart logoStudent Mentors Advising Rising Talent (S.M.A.R.T) is a program designed to create an inclusive environment in which students of color develop a sense of belonging at Heidelberg University. S.M.A.R.T will help first and second year students navigate their initial years of college by connecting them to campus resources (i.e., student support offices, faculty, administrators, and student organizations), providing them with a mentor, and encouraging active involvement within the Heidelberg Community. SMART mentees will be working toward four main outcomes: Academic Excellence, Leadership Development, Social Engagement, and Cultural Exploration.

Academic Excellence

  • Increase awareness of Academic resources available on campus
  • Develop study/test taking skills
  • Establish career plan that is in conjunction with 4 year plan

Leadership Development

  • Develop an understanding and appreciation of their leadership style
  • Develop ethical decision making skills
  • Participate community outreach/Volunteer work

Social Engagement

  • Engage in student sponsored programs
  • Join campus organizations

Cultural Exploration

  • Attend cultural events that support growth and learning
  • Learn strategies for working in a multicultural community
  • Explore personal values and beliefs
