For Foreign Language Exam
Q: What is the Foreign Language Placement test?
A: The foreign language placement test helps students to register for the appropriate level course for a foreign language. The unproctored placement test does NOT exempt a student from any language requirements. The placement test merely informs students where they should begin their language study at Heidelberg University. Placing beyond the intro level does NOT grant credit for any levels that the student places beyond. The placement test does NOT grant any university credits.
Note: This test does NOT assess Engligh proficiency for international students. International students should contact Julie Arnold in the Office of International Affais and Studies.
Q: Who needs to take the foreign language placement test?
A: If you have studied a foreign language and are interested in continuing this course of study (and are not bringing in AP or transferable credit), you are eligible to take the complete the relevant language test. The test results will determine an appropriate starting level for college language study, based on your proficiency in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and listening. It is suggested students take the placement exam even if they do not plan to immediately enroll in foreign language courses.
Q: What language tests are offered?
A: Foreign language placement tests are available in French, German, and Spanish.
Q: When and where will the Foreign Language Placement test take place?
A: The Foreign Language Placement test MUST be taken prior to attending Orientation. It is in an online format.
