With the exterior enclosed with glass, construction crews are concentrating on interior work in the new Saurwein Health & Wellness Center. With several weeks to go until the facility is primarily completed, there’s been a push to finish drywalling, especially in the higher areas, according to Rod Morrison, associate vice president for facilities and engineering.
Earlier this week, the order for $131,000 worth of fitness equipment was finalized and placed. The equipment includes treadmills, incline trainers, ellipticals, a rowing machine and a rope machine. A variety of cardio equipment also has been ordered, including a full range of strength and fitness machines, free weights and exercise balls.
“It’ll be a nicely equipped facility,” said Morrison.
He added that the university has worked closely with Steve Crone, executive director of the Tiffin Community YMCA to put together a great package of equipment for future users. Heidelberg and the YMCA are partnering to operate programming of the facility. “Steve was very helpful to us as we went through the process of selecting equipment.”
The next step in furnishing the facility will be ordering furniture, which is scheduled to occur soon. Crews also have started to install the large patio that looks out onto the Mayer Field complex.
