Heidelberg professors to give first recital of season

Mezzo-soprano Renee Clair and Joel Shonkwiler, trombone, faculty members of the Heidelberg University School of Music, are scheduled to perform a recital at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, in Brenneman Music Hall.

Clair teaches applied voice and music appreciation at Heidelberg. She is also a collaborative pianist who is most recognized as a performer in opera, oratorio, recital and chamber music.

Shonkwiler, a solo, chamber and orchestral musician, joined the School of Music faculty in 2010. He teaches lo brass, music education and directs Heidelberg’s Athletic Band.

For their recital, Clair and Shonkwiler will perform Benedetto Marcello’s Sonata in A Minor, selections from Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel and Roger Vogel excerpts from the song cycle Love Letters.

The pair will be accompanied by Cynthia Ramsdell on piano and Kai-Wei Chen on violin.
