The spring concert season for the Heidelberg School of Music and Theatre starts right away! Join us on Friday evening, January 22 at 7 PM in the Ohl Concert Hall to enjoy a program by Thomas Wood, violin and Brian Dykstra, piano. The program, called A Night at the Opera, features opera fantasies for violin and piano by Jean Baptiste Singelee.
Thomas Wood is Professor of Music at The College of Wooster where he has taught since 1991. He has collaborated in recital with pianist Dykstra for more than twenty-years and has performed throughout the United States and in Spain. He has appeared as concerto soloist with orchestras in the region and in 2010 performed both Prokofiev violin concertos in a single recital along with the composer's major short works for violin. A supporter of music by contemporary composers, he has premiered works by Scott Huston (Glass Children), Jack Gallagher (Exotic Dances), and Brian Dykstra (Aurora Rag).
Brian Dykstra holds the D.M.A. degree in piano from The Eastman School of Music, where his piano teacher was Cécile Genhart, and the B.S. Degree in piano from The Juilliard School of Music, where his piano teacher was James Friskin. He has taught for many years at The College of Wooster, where he has been an active performer, regularly presenting a wide range of repertoire in solo and collaborative recitals.
