Guest Recital: Gail Levinsky, saxophone & Chi-Chen Wu, piano

Join us for an eclectic program of music written for saxophone and piano, featuring the Ohio premiere of Happy Endings, for tenor saxophone and piano, by Heidelberg composer Doug McConnell. Written in four movements, Happy Endings is the composer's tribute to the life and music of theater composer Kurt Weill.
Gail B. Levinsky has performed within the United States, Canada, and Europe. Recent performances have included presentations at the North American Saxophone Alliance, World Saxophone Congress, British Saxophone Congress, United States Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, Festival of Women Composers, Music a la Carte Salon series, Southeast Composers League, and the Indiana State Contemporary Music Festival. As a solo performer, she is an active in commissioning and premiering new works for saxophone including several compositions by Doug McConnell

Praised by World Journal, Chicago for her “amazing playing”, pianist Chi-Chen Wu has appeared as recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist in the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Japan, Taiwan, the Aspen Music Festival, Monadnock Music Festival, Mayfest Chamber Music Festival among others. Her concerts have been broadcast on NPR-WVIA’s Simply Grand Concert Series and NPR-From The Top in Boston. Musicians and conductors with whom she has concertized include Karl-Heinz Steffens, Jonathan McPhee, Zuill Bailey, members of the Julliard String Quartet, Takács String Quartet, musicians from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and members of the Boston Symphony as well as New York Philharmonic orchestras.
