Wilmington, Ohio – April 2, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s track and field team continued its impressive start to its 2011 outdoor season with a strong showing amongst Ohio Athletic Conference foes at the annual OAC Black Split Meet hosted by Wilmington College.
The Berg claimed five championships to lead the way to its 121 points and third place. Otterbein took home the top spot with 175 points followed by Capital at 146.5 ONU was fourth with 86 points and Wilmington stood fifth with 69.5 points.
Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) paced Heidelberg with two of its five titles on the day. Goodman opened up with a first in the 100-meter dash. She crossed the finish line in 12.87. Goodman also brought home the championship in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.87.
Not to be outdone Goodman teamed up for the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays championships. In the 4x100 Goodman joined Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway), Samantha Filliater (Fostoria, Ohio / Lakota) and Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) and the quartet finished in 50.19. The 4x400-meter relay team clocked a time of 4:22.53 and consisted of Goodman, Bevington, Lilly Hansberger (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve) and Jenn Brown (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid).
Bevington was also second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.34), but also showcased her depth off the track as well. Aside from her share of a relay title she leaped to first in the long jump. Bevington topped the field by over a foot with a leap of 17’8”.
Shaw raced to runner-up honors in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 1:00.99. Bringing home second through fourth place in the 800-meter run was Brown (2:32.81), Hansberger (2:32.87) and Jocelyn Staugler (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) (2:39.35).
Scoring in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh C. Williams) and Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad). Goobic was third in a time of 12:15.26 followed by Custer in fifth with a time of 12:44.08.
On the field, Amber Welfle (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) backed Bevington in the long jump with a fourth place finish. Welfle leaped 15’1.25”.
In the throws, Brittany Tatum (Cleveland, Ohio / Trinity) placed in two events to pave the way. She was third in the hammer throw (106’11”) and fifth in the shot put (33’6”). Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) was runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 38’6” and Kristina Jasinski (Litchfield, Ohio / Wellington) was fifth in the hammer throw (101’00”) and in the discus (101’5”).
