Wilmington, Ohio. – April 2, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s track and field team participated at the OAC Black Meet. The Berg finished fifth with 71 points. The event was hosted by Wilmington College.
Placing ahead of the Berg was Otterbein College (145), Ohio Northern University (138), Capital University (131), and Wilmington College (92).
Heidelberg 4x100 meter relay team placed second with a time of 50.74. The team consisted of sophomore Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior), junior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian), sophomore Lauren Bruynis (Upper Sandusky, Ohio / Upper Sandusky), and freshman Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway).
Goodman also scored points for Heidelberg with a run of 13.40 in the 100 meter dash and in the 200 meter dash (26.39) which was good for third place, while Bruynis finished in the top-5 in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:35.84.
Also claiming a second place finish for the Berg was senior Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel). Depinet finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.08. That’s a finish that is only about a minute and half off from a provisional mark.
Sophomore Kristin Burns (Milford Center, Ohio / Fairbanks) followed Depinet and finished in the top five with a time of 1:02.68.
Junior Michelle Fitch (Kinsman, Ohio / Badger) took third place in the 5000 meter run in the time of 20:37.11.
The Berg’s 4x400 meter relay which included Depinet, Burns, Bruynis, and sophomore Lilly Hansberger (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve) crossed the finish line in 4:18.10 for a fourth place finish.
Heidelberg claimed two of the top-three finishes in long lump. Bevington finished second with a jump of 16’5”, while junior Breeanca Madison (Columbus, Ohio / Africentric Secondary) took third (14’7.75”).
Bevington also took third in the high jump, clearing 5’2.25”.
Taking second in shot put was sophomore Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) with a toss of 39’2.50”.
