Boyden Receives OAC Athlete of the Week Honors

Freshman thrower Mary Beth Boyden (Somerset/Sheridan) received her first Ohio Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week Award with her record-breaking performance at the All-Ohio Meet on Saturday, February 9, 2013.

“Mary Beth has been working hard and has earned this award,” said ‘Berg throws coach C.J. Potter. "She came to Heidelberg ready to learn and has been improving every week.”

Boyden finished first in the women’s shot put with a heave of 13.07 meters (42-10.75) in the preliminaries followed by a toss of 12.65 meters (41-06) in the finals.

In the preliminaries of the weight throw, Boyden tossed 14.30 meters (46-11) to qualify as the third seed. Mary Beth would finish third overall with a throw of 14.81 meters (48-07.25) in the finals.

“I am very proud of the work Mary Beth has done and she needs to continue this momentum to improve,” said Potter.

“The throwers as a group have been doing great things," said Potter. "It will be exciting to watch this group develop and I’m very fortunate to have such a dedicated, young group of athletes.”

Boyden and the rest of the Heidelberg University track and field team return to the track on Saturday, February 16, 2013 when they travel to the Meindel Last Call Meet hosted by Capital University. Action from Bexley, Ohio is slated for a 10:30 a.m. start.
