'Berg Track and Field Continues Indoor Season at Findlay Open

The Heidelberg University track and field team continued the indoor portion of their 2012-13 season at the Findlay Open on Friday February 1, 2013.

Freshman Mary Beth Boyden (Somerset/Sheridan) led the Student Princes by breaking her record in the weight throw, which she set earlier this season. The throw of 14.30 meters (46-11.00) on Friday, tops the mark of 45-5.25 that she set coincidentally set at the University of Findlay on January 18, 2013.

The heave was enough for a ninth place finish overall in the women’s weight throw.

Boyden followed her performance in the weight throw with a fifth place finish in the shot put. Her throw of 12.54 meters, 41-01.75 feet led the Berg women throwers.

Senior distance runner, Bobbi Custer (Milford) placed sixth in the women’s 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:31.47.

Junior Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) claimed another sixth place finish for the Heidelberg women in the women’s 3000-meter run with a time of 10:53.04.

Sophomore Desmond Vaughn (Cortland/Lakeland) finished ninth in the men’s 60-meter dash, to lead the Heidelberg men’s sprinters. Vaughn clocked a time of 7.25, finishing one spot shy of qualifying for the finals.

Freshman Jacob Berryman (Fremont/Fremont Ross) led the Heidelberg men in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.25. Berryman shaved tewo second off of his time from a week ago.

Freshman Avery Gathell (Fostoria/Hopewell-Loudon) dropped six second from performance a week ago in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:04.32 in the men’s 800-meter run.

Senior distance runner, Dustin Kuess (Coldwater) claimed a fourth place finish at the Findlay Open in the 3000-meter run. Kuess finished with a time of 9:33.55.

Sophomore thrower Gage Falcone (Fairview) led the Heidelberg men with a heave of 14.11 meters, 46-03.50. Falcone’s throw was enough for an eighth place finish in Findlay.

The Heidelberg track and field squad will return to the track on February 8, 2013 when they travel to Berea, Ohio and the campus of Baldwin Wallace University to compete in the Baldwin Wallace Mid-February Meet.
