Women's Tennis Opens Year Victorious

Defiance, Ohio – September 21, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s tennis opened up its 2010-11 season with an 8-1 victory at Defiance College.

Heidelberg swept doubles play before taking home victories in second through sixth singles. All of its wins in singles play came in straight sets.

The winning began with the duo of Deidre Potter (Chillicothe, Ohio / Union Scioto) and Elizabeth Kurtzman (Mansfield, Ohio / Shelby) at first doubles. They posted an 8-2 victory. Bringing home an 8-2 win at second doubles was Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) and Bryana Adkins (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst), while Jackquelyn Earl (Crestline, Ohio / Crestline) and Linda Miller (Garfield Heights, Ohio / Garfield Heights) blanked their opponent, 8-0, at third doubles.

Defiance scored its lone point at first singles.

Potter posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles followed by Gerber with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at third singles. Earl held down the fourth singles spot winning 6-1, 6-0. Taking home a victory at fifth singles was Adkins and rounding out the scoring was Young with a 7-5, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Heidelberg returns to action Oct. 2 when it travels to Wittenberg University for a 10:00 a.m. match.
