Women's Tennis Wins Second Straight on the Road

Bexley, Ohio – April 30, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s tennis team swept singles play en route to posting an 8-1 victory over host Capital University this afternoon. The road win is the second straight in as many days for the Berg who improves to 4-14 overall and 3-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Crusaders fall to 1-11, 1-8 with the setback.

Heidelberg and Capital battled through some tough doubles matches to open the day. The duo of Deidre Potter (Chillicothe, Ohio / Chillicothe) and Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) got things started with a 9-7 win at first doubles. After Capital took second doubles, 9-7, Heidelberg’s Taylor Stoll (Norwalk, Ohio / Edison) and Linda Miller (Garfield Heights, Ohio / Garfield Heights) gave the visitors a 3-1 advantage with an 8-4 win in the third doubles spot.

The Berg took control of the match in singles play, posting six wins all by straight sets. Potter won the first spot by identical 6-3 scores. In the second singles position Gerber won 6-0, 7-5 followed by Jackquelyn Earl (Crestline, Ohio / Crestline) (6-1, 6-0) and Kam Haifleigh (Wolvenne Lake, Mich. / Bishop Foley) (6-1, 6-1).

Rounding out the victors for the Berg was Stoll and Miller at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Stoll won 6-1, 6-3 and Miller was victorious in both sets by a score of 6-2.
