New Lexington, Ohio – April 19, 2011 – Despite being up 4-3 going into the last two singles sets, the Heidelberg University women’s tennis team suffered a heart breaker to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta College, 5-4. The Berg drops to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in the OAC, while the Pioneers improve to 5-7 overall and 2-3 against league foes.
After Marietta’s won the first doubles, Heidelberg answered with the duo of Jackquelyn Earl (Crestline, Ohio / Crestline) and Kam Haifleigh (Wolvenne Lake, Mich. / Bishop Foley) winning, 8-4.
The Pioneers would take a 3-1 lead after posting a win in third doubles and first singles, but the Berg would take its first lead of the day, after posting three-straight singles victories.
Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) posted a come from behind win in second singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Following was Earl (7-6, 7-1, 6-0) and Haifleigh (6-2, 6-0).
The Berg battled in the fifth and sixth singles spot, but just came up short in both.
Heidelberg looks to get back in the win column when it travels to Baldwin-Wallace College on Tuesday (April 19) at 3:30 p.m .
