Lexington, Ohio – April 2, 2011 – The Heidelberg University women’s tennis team topped Ohio Athletic Conference foe Muskingum University in a dominant 8-1 finish at Lakewood Racquet Club courts. The match was scheduled to be played in Tiffin, but was changed due to impending weather.
The Berg improves to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while the Muskies drop to 1-3 and 0-2 in conference play.
Heidelberg was undefeated in the singles and only dropped the last doubles match on the day.
Starting off was freshman Deidre Potter (Chillicothe, Ohio / Union Scioto) posting a 6-2, 6-4 win in the first single spot, followed by junior Kayla Gerber (Clyde, Ohio / Clyde) winning, 6-3, 6-3.
Earning her team-leading fourth singles win on the season was senior Jackquelyn Earl (Crestline, Ohio / Crestline) (6-2, 6-2) in the third single spot.
Rounding out the singles wins for the Berg was freshmen Kam Haifleigh (Wolvenne Lake, Mich. / Bishop Foley) (6-1, 6-0) and Taylor Stoll (Norwalk, Ohio / Edison) (7-7, 7-3, 6-4) and junior Linda Miller (Garfield Heights, Ohio / Garfield Heights) (6-4, 6-2).
Potter and Gerber won their team’s best third doubles match on the year 9-8, 9-7, followed by Earl and Haifleigh winning the second doubles slot with a score of 8-2.
