Tiffin, Ohio – April 17, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s tennis team hosted Ohio Athletic Conference opponents Marietta College this afternoon. The women picked up their first home win with a, 6-3 victory.
The Berg advances to 4-8 in the overall and 2-3 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 1-7 and 1-5.
Heidelberg started the match strong taking wins at number one and two doubles. Partners Elizabeth Kurtzman (Mansfield, Ohio / Shelby) and Emily Naugle (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) swept their doubles opponents at the number one seed, 8-0. Kayla Gerber (Cyde, Ohio / Clyde) and Darcy Young (Green Springs, Ohio / Clyde) had a bit of a tougher time at the number two position but fought their way out and won, 8-6.
Kurtzman was not finished as she came back for another win at number one singles against opponent Lauren Mckierman (6-4, 6-1). She was not alone as Gerber (6-2, 6-1) and Naugle (6-0, 6-1) also won at second and third singles respectively. They each earned their second OAC win for the season.
Not to be left out was Jackquelyn Earl (Crestline, Ohio / Crestline) who picked up an, 8-2, pro set win at number five singles.
The Berg returns to action Tuesday, April 20, as they host OAC opponents Baldwin-Wallace at 3:300 p.m.
