The Heidelberg University women’s tennis team guided by veteran head coach Jerry McDonald found their first Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Muskingum University. The Student Princes took only one doubles contest from the Muskies, but captured four single victories for the overall win, 5-4.
Heidelberg number one, Katie Strahan (West Chester/Lakota East) collected the first singles victory of the afternoon in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Strahan paired up with Heidelberg number two, Sofey Fugate (Cincinnati/Lakota East) in doubles action after Fugate tallied a 6-0, 6-1 victory in singles competition.
The duo dropped their Muskingum counterparts, 8-3 for the only Berg doubles victory.
Sara Potts (Clyde) occupied the three spot for the Student Princes and claimed a thrilling 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) victory.
The final singles victory of the afternoon came from the racquet of Melissa Lovati (St. Clair Shores, MI/Lakeview). Lovati downed her opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to decide the match for the Berg.
With the victory, the Berg ladies moves to 20-8 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.
