'Berg Women's Soccer Team Falls, 6-0

Crestview Hills, KY – The second day of their two-day road trip would prove even more difficult for the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team. Following their 2-0 loss to Hanover College, the Student Princes hopped on the bus to travel to the campus of Thomas More College in Kentucky.

The Saints defeated the Berg the 6-0.

Freshmen Jeannette Jinkinson (Cincinnati/Indian Hill), Shannon Angel (Hudson) and Nicole Johnson (Ontario) tallied one shot each for the Berg. Sophomores Rachel Gilbert (Chardon) and Stephanie Crossman (Dayton/Bellbrook) both added one shot on goal for the Student Princes.

Freshmen goalkeeper Julie Cross (Bowling Green) collected six more saves, boosting her season total to 31.

“Cross has stepped up in goal and has really played well for us,” said head coach Nick Spell. “Coach Heather Denaro does a great job working with our goalkeepers and has been a vital part of Julie Cross’s game, which is improving everyday,” added Spell.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead in the 12th minute. Sam Work served up an assist to Lauren Wietmarschen. The Saints found the back of the net again with a header in the 34th minute.

Thomas More tallied another goal to jump out to a 3-0 lead at half. Huber added a goal to her assist in the 47th minute. Wietmarschen added an assist to her early go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute. The Saints netted their final goal in the 74th minute.

Heidelberg will return to the pitch on September 16th for Family and Kids’ Day at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. The Berg will take on Franklin (Ind.) at 2:00 pm.
