'Berg Women's Soccer Team Celebrates Senior Day With Win Over Marietta

TIFFIN, Ohio—Sophomore midfielder Aleseya Evans (Troy) scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to lead the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Marietta College on Senior Day today in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Mayer Field in Tiffin, Ohio.
Defenders Cori-Ann Brown (Columbus/Olentangy) and Rachel Johann (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Reitz) and midfielders Jenn Pfau (Lewis Center/Olentangy) and Kristen Schneider (Evendale/Mount Notre Dame)—playing in their last home game—were honored at halftime during an on-field ceremony.

The Berg improves to 6-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the OAC and has won three of its last five matches. The Pioneers fall to 1-14-1 and 0-7-0 in the OAC.

Evans headed a corner kick from Schneider into the net for her fourth goal of the season. The assist was Schneider’s first.

A ‘Berg own goal in the 22nd minute gave Marietta 1-0 lead.

Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati/Mariemont) provided the equalizer—unassisted—in the 63rd minute when she placed a shot from 30 yards into the lower left corner of the net. The goal was her team-leading sixth of the season.

Junior Molly Schriber (Sidney) faced four shots in the first half and made three saves before being relieved in the second period by sophomore Brittany Labry (Aurora/Twinsburg). Labry also faced four shots and made one save in 45 minutes of action.

Kaitlyn Pearse made six saves in 90 minutes for the Pioneers.

Heidelberg outshot Marietta, 21-8, and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Heidelberg returns to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 26 when it faces No. 11 Ohio Northern University (13-1-2, 7-0 OAC) in a conference match at the ONU Soccer Field in Ada.
