TIFFIN, Ohio—Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati/Mariemont) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season tonight to preserve a 1-1 tie against Hiram College in a non-conference match at Mayer Field. Hogan’s goal came in the 75th minute.
The tie makes the Berg 3-5-1 overall. The Terriers remain even at 3-3-1.
An evenly played first half gave way when Hiram’s Samantha Zuponcic gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute on an unassisted goal.
Hogan provided the equalizer with a header off a cross from freshman midfielder Rachel Gilbert (Chardon), who recorded her first assist and point as a collegian.
A stalemate over the remaining 15 minutes of regulation carried on through two overtime periods, as both teams combined for just two shots, but no goals.
Junior Molly Schriber (Sidney) played the first half in goal, making three saves. Sophomore Brittany Labry (Aurora/Twinsburg) relieved Schriber in the second half and made one save.
Despite the deadlock, Heidelberg outshot Hiram, 24-10, and held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
With half of its 2011 scheduled complete, the Berg will begin October and Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday, Oct. 1 at Capital University. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
