Heidelberg Women's Soccer Team Loses at Wooster, 3-1

WOOSTER, Ohio—Freshman forward Kristen Smith (Lancaster/Bloom Carroll) scored her first career goal, but the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team lost, 3-1, to The College of Wooster today in a non-conference match at Cindy Barr & Carl Dale Field in Wooster, Ohio. The game was the fourth road game in five matches for the Berg in 2011.

The loss drops Heidelberg to 2-3 overall, while Wooster improves to 4-2.

Wooster’s Crystal Chavez scored the Fighting Scots’ first two goals in the 18th and 22nd minutes, respectively, to give them a 2-0 lead and entered halftime with a 3-0 lead following Lida Bilokur’s 30th-minute goal.

Smith put ‘Berg on the board in the 74th minute when she received a sliding pass in the box from freshman midfielder Stephanie Crossman (Dayton/Bellbrook) and fired the goal to the right side of the net to cut the score to 3-1. The assist was the first of Crossman’s career.

In goal, junior Molly Schriber (Sidney) started and played the first half, facing eight shots and making three saves. Sophomore Brittany Labry (Aurora/Twinsburg) relieved Schriber and made one save in 45 minutes of action.

The Berg returns to Tiffin looking forward to playing six of its next eight matches inside the friendly confines of Mayer Field, beginning with a 7 p.m. match against The College of Mount St. Joseph on Friday.
