Tiffin, Ohio – October 16, 2010 – In an Ohio Athletic Conference showdown, the Heidelberg University women’s soccer defeated the University of Mount Union today 5-0.
The match was highlighted by junior Kristen Schneider’s (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) hat trick. It was the first of her of career and the second player for Heidelberg to earn the feat this season. Freshman Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) scored three goals against the University of the Ozarks (9/6).
The Berg improves to 9-6 overall, 2-3 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders drop to 3-9-3, 1-4 in the conference.
The Offensive charge was lead by Schneider who scored first in the 13th minute as she made a break away from Mount Union’s defenders; then again in the 17th minute from a cross to the low near post to give Heidelberg an early 2-0 lead. Hogan earned the assist on the Schneider’s second goal.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, freshman Aleseya Evans (Troy, Ohio / Troy) scored her fourth goal of the season, when she received a nice cross from Schneider and tapped the ball in the far back post.
In the second half, Schneider continued Heidelberg’s scoring spree in the 50th minute with her third goal of the game, when she made a play off of Mount Union goalie’s deflection.
Junior Jennifer Pfau (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) earned her first collegiate goal, when she scored in the 65th minute of the game off a deflection of the near post.
Heidelberg looks to get to .500 in the OAC, when it travels to John Carroll University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
