New Concord, Ohio – October 8, 2010 - The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team earns its first Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season as it blanks Muskingum University 4-0. The win marks head coach Nick Spell’s most in a single season since he took over the program in 2006.
The Berg improves to 8-5 overall, 1-2 in the OAC, while the Muskies fall to 1-12, 0-3 against conference play.
Freshman Aleseya Evans (Troy, Ohio / Troy) put Heidelberg on the score board first in the 25th minute with a 20 yarder from straight-away center over the Muskies’ goalie’s head. Evans now has three goals on the season.
Evans’ classmate freshman Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) scored her team-leading eighth goal on the year, when she scored in the 37th minute.
Heidelberg matched its first half effort in the second half with two more goals courtesy of senior Katie Klein (Milford, Ohio / Milford) (69th min.) and junior Rachel Johann (Evansville, Ind. / Evansville Reitz) (79th min.). Klein scored from a free kick with a bent kick in the far post proceeded by Johann placing a ball in the corner of the near post. Both goals marked their first of the season.
The Berg outshot the Muskies 23-20 for the game.
Freshman goalie Brittany Labry (Aurora, Ohio / Twinsburg) led the team with four saves on the day.
