Tiffin, Ohio – October 2, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team lost a hard fought double overtime contest to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Capital University 2-1.
‘Berg drops to 7-4 overall, 0-1 in the OAC, while the Crusaders improve to 4-3-3, 1-0 in conference play.
The Crusaders got on the board first in the 61st minute when Hillary Ells scored as she broke away from Heidelberg’s defense and snuck the ball past Heidelberg’s goalie for the 1-0 lead. It marked Ells’ fifth goal of the season.
Heidelberg’s freshman Kelsey Hogan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) would answer in the 83rd minute when she scored from a free kick from 15 yards out. It’s Hogan’s team-leading seventh goal on the year.
With 44 seconds in the second overtime, Capital’s Chelsea Caldwell made a cross to Tara Zimmer who would loop the ball in the back of the net for the game winner.
Hogan led the team with four shots on goal. Also recording a shot on goal were juniors Jennifer Pfau (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) and Rachel Johann (Evansville, Ind. / Evansville Reitz).
'Berg's goalie Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) accumulated a career-high 13 saves on the day.
Heidelberg looks to rebound as it travels to nationally ranked Otterbein University, Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 4:30 p.m.
