Schneider Scores OT Game Winner

Tiffin, Ohio – September 18, 2010 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team, under the guidance of head coach Nick Spell, earned its third-straight win on the season as it defeated Kenyon College 1-0 in overtime.

The Berg improves to 4-2 overall, while the Ladies drop to 2-4.

The first two halves were physical with each team fighting for possession.

Junior Kristen Schneider (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mount Notre Dame) had a chance in the 50th minute to put the Berg ahead, but just misguided the shot.

Schneider would have an opportunity to redeem herself in overtime and this time she would capitalize.

Five minutes into the first overtime, sophomore Krista Blake (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) outhustled Kenyon’s defense and made a nice cross from the near side of the field. The ball would deflect off a Kenyon player and Schneider would connect with it to the far post.

This marked Schneider’s second-straight game winner. She scored in the 47th minute against Wooster this past Wednesday (9/15).

Heidelberg’s sophomore goal keeper Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) set a career-high of 10 saves, including a spectacular one handed stop late in the second half.

Next up for the Berg is a three-game road trip which starts against Oberlin on Tuesday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m.
