Tiffin, Ohio – October 7, 2009 – The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team won their third-straight overall and second-straight Ohio Athletic Conference match under the lights at Mayer Field as they defeated Baldwin-Wallace College 1-0. Heidelberg improves to 5-6-1, 2-0 OAC, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 5-6-2, 1-1 in the OAC.
Both teams played stellar defense while only allowing four shots combined in the first half resulting in a 0-0 tie at halftime.
In 70th minute Baldwin-Wallace placed a well executed header towards Heidelberg’s goal, but it was denied with a tremendous effort by goal keeper Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney), keeping the score locked at 0-0.
Heidelberg got things rolling in the 82nd minute when Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) broke the tie as she scored from outside the box and placed the ball over the Baldwin-Wallace’s goal keeper for the eventual game-winning goal. The goal marked Gross’s fourth score and her third game-winning goal of the season.
Offensively, Katelyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) led the Berg with three shots and two shots on goal. Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) contributed with two shots on the night.
The Berg’s Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) and Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) accumulated 7 saves for the game.
Heidelberg looks to make it four-straight wins as they travel to Wilmington College, Saturday October 10, at 7:00 p.m.
