Defiance, Ohio – September 30, 2009 –Heidelberg University women’s soccer team shutout Defiance College with the score of 4-0. Heidelberg improves to 3-6-1 on the season while Defiance drops to 3-6.
Heidelberg’s Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) got things started in the 5th minute of the game when she scored off a corner kick. It was Perry’s second goal of the season and it eventually led to the game-winning goal for the Berg.
Adding insurance for the Berg was Katleyn McBeath (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) as she recorded her first goal of the season in the 75th minute, as the ball was deflected off Defiance’s goal keeper Kelly Coble. Also putting points on the board was Makenzie Dunford (Ontario, Canada / Orangeville District Section) in the 86th minute and Erin Richards (Stockbridge, Mich. / Stockbridge) in the 87th. Richard’s goal marked her first of her collegiate career.
The Berg outshot Defiance 17-8. Backing up McBeath and Perry’s three shots each were Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) with two shots and two shots on goal and Shyanne Becker (Evansville, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) with three shots and two shots on goal. Kristen Schneider also had on a shot on goal on the night.
The Berg’s Lauren Sweeney (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) and Molly Schriber (Sidney, Ohio / Sidney) had two saves each on the night.
Heidelberg looks to make it two-straight wins as they travel to Mariette College for their first OAC match of the season, Friday October 2, at 4:00 p.m.
