Beaver Falls, Pa. – September 26, 2009 – Despite an impressive second half effort, the Heidelberg University women’s soccer team was defeated by Geneva College with the score of 2-0. Heidelberg goes to 2-6-1 on the season while Geneva improves to 6-2.
Geneva scored twice within the first 20 minutes, with both scores coming off headers from corner kicks courtesy of Elise Mann. Mann connected with Maura Allen in the 18th minute and also Julie Collins in the 20th. Allen’s score was her third goal of the season.
Heidelberg outshot Geneva 7-4 in the second half. Overall the ‘Berg had 11 shots led by Shara Perry (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Davidson) with three and two shots on goal. Also contributing was Carolyn Gross (Centerville, Ohio / Centerville) with two shots and two shots on goal. Katie Klein (Milford, Ohio / Milford) tied with Perry with three shots while earning one shot on goal.
The Berg’s Lauren Sweeny (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) accumulated 10 saves for the game.
The Berg looks to return to the win column as they travel to Defiance College, Wednesday September 30, at 4:00 p.m.
