The Heidelberg University women’s soccer team, under the direction of seventh year head coach Nick Spell, traveled to Marietta College to open their 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, September 29. Despite another outstanding performance from freshman goalkeeper Julie Cross (Bowling Green), the Heidelberg ladies fell, 1-0 to the Pioneers.
Cross, tied a career high set earlier this season at Hanover, recording eleven saves on the afternoon. She has amassed 64 total saves in her freshman campaign, which leads the OAC.
Five Student Princes tallied shots for the Berg in Marietta. Sophomores Christina Neal (Kingston, TN/Roane County) and Rachel Gilbert (Chardon) tallied one shot on goal each.
Freshmen Brittany Yost (Castalia/Margaretta) and Kristen Smith (Lancaster/Bloom Carroll) also recorded shots for the Berg.
The Heidelberg women drop to 1-7-1 on the year.
The Heidelberg women will continue OAC competition against Wilmington on Wednesday October 3. The match against the Quakers will be played in Tiffin and is scheduled for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
