TIFFIN, Ohio - Following back-to-back road losses, the Heidelberg women’s soccer team was searching desperately for a victory. However, the Tigers of Wittenberg would not surrender as they netted two second half goals to beat the Berg, 2-0 under the lights of Mayer Field.
The Wittenberg defense was too much for the Berg to handle as they only recorded one shot that came from junior Rachel Gilbert.
Senior goalkeeper Molly Schriber was the only object standing and often diving in the way of the Tigers and a blow out. Schriber pulled in eight saves against Wittenberg bringing her season total to 52.
The Tigers struck in the 54th minute after the Berg kept the Tigers scoreless in the first half. Kayla Murphy served a low cross to Tobie Weston who booted the ball passed Schriber. Murphy then claimed the Tiger’s second goal in the 68th minute to accompany her assist.
The Berg ladies will finish the non-conference portion of their schedule on the road at Franklin College and Hiram College this coming week. The Student Princes will travel to Franklin on Saturday, September 28 then to Hiram on Wednesday, October 2 before entering Ohio Athletic Conference play. Kickoff between Franklin and the Berg is slated for 3:30 p.m.
The Berg women open the OAC slate at home with Marietta College on Saturday, October 5.
